Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Blessed Virgin Mary Homily

It's a wonderful privilege to be allowed to preach and much to my surprise during formation it became one of the high points of my ministry. I love preaching, I love seeing the faces in the congregation as something sinks in, as Gods message, Gods love is opened up for them. I love the buzz I get when writing a homily after hours of nothing suddenly comes inspiration from the Spirit and words just flow.

I am one of 4 deacons who preach once a month in 6 different churches in our communion of parishes. I am publishing my homilies on this site to let more of our congregation hear or read them. I am always glad to receive feedback so feel free to comment on the blog, email me or just come and talk to me at the back of church.

As I was only ordained in 2011 much of the table below is currently empty but over the coming years I hope will soon begin to fill up. Their are five type of entry:
  • "---" meaning I haven't preached on that day yet.
  • "Homily" Which is a link to the homily.
  • "Homily+" Which is a link to the homily and an audio recording or pod cast of the homily.
  • "Notes" Which are a very basic collection of thoughts, links and other things I found and thought about while preparing to preach.
  • "Notes+" Again rough notes but where I also recorded the homily.
You can also subscribe to the free pod cast of homily by searching for "Deacon John Scanlon" in the iTunes Store or Clicking Here.

If you want to know more about the liturgical year and the readings, then I can recommend The Liturgy Office of Engalnd & Wales website www.liturgyoffice.org.uk which I have used to help build this page.
